About us

Our story.

Thirteen years, one name change and a championship.

Humble beginnings

From a
dead-end street.

Davis Steel began as Eberlein Drive, named for the cul-de-sac in Fraser, Michigan where Jake Hirschmann grew up. He and his childhood friends spent countless hours there dreaming of bigger competition, and in 2014 they entered the first-ever TBT.

Sports Illustrated called them “the lost cause of The Basketball Tournament.”1 They went winless. They kept coming back anyway, and today Davis Steel is the only team to have played in every TBT since.

A new chapter

To the top
of TBT.

After twelve years as Eberlein Drive, the team found new partners in Ashley and Adam Davis and Davis Sports Corp. New name. Same people. Same standard, with Matt Mitchell and Jake Hirschmann still running it as general managers.

On August 2, 2026, Davis Steel beat La Familia 67–59 in Lexington, Kentucky, to win The Basketball Tournament and the $2,000,000 prize. The first title, thirteen years in the making.

The name changed. The way we treat players did not. Here is what some of them say.

Behind the scenes

General Managers

Matt and Jake run the team day to day. They build the roster, manage player relationships and partnerships, and handle the operations, logistics and details that keep everything organized, from travel and schedules to contracts. Together, they were named TBT GMs of the Year in 2018 and 2025.

Since day one. Matt and Jake are the only two people to be part of every TBT since its inception in 2014.
